How Local Networking Changed My Business
When I first started my business, I knew networking was important, but traditional networking events in Indianapolis never seemed to fit. They felt too corporate, too structured, and honestly, too intimidating. I wasn’t a blazer-wearing professional walking in with a stack of business cards—I was an entrepreneur juggling preschool drop-off, coffee stains, and the constant hum of ideas in my head.
Why I Created My Own Networking Events
As I talked with fellow business owners, I realized I wasn’t alone. So many of my local, introverted business owner friends expressed how they wanted to attend networking events but felt overwhelmed by them. They worried about walking into a room full of strangers or felt like their businesses weren’t “big enough” to belong.
I wanted something different—something welcoming, casual, and truly supportive. So, I created it.
With the help of my dear friend Mackenzie Greer owner of Maple Lane Market, we launched Indy Networking events, a space where business owners can come as they are, connect authentically, and feel seen and valued. I provide the snacks and drinks, she provides the space, and Beth Wood, owner of Wood & Co. Studio, always saves me when I forget the last-minute details.
And you know what? It works.
The Power of Community
At our events, something magical happens:
Everyone feels comfortable. No forced conversations, no pressure to be anyone but yourself.
Everyone feels good enough. Your business—whether brand new or years in the making—matters here.
Everyone leaves with new connections. You’ll walk away with a new friend, a collaborator, or even a client.
Everyone feels validated. A room full of fellow entrepreneurs hyping you up? It’s game-changing.
Because here’s the thing: Your business isn’t a hobby. It’s not “just a side gig.” It’s a big deal, and you deserve to be surrounded by people who believe that, too.
Giving Back While Growing Together
As we expand Indy Networking in 2025 (yes, we’re now hosting monthly events! 🎉), we’re also committed to making a difference.
Each month, we will:
Donate 💰to a local Indianapolis or Indiana organization supporting marginalized communities.
Since we’re hosting them at Maplelayne Market, her shop features small, local, BIPOC, or LGBTQ+ made products which uplift and amplify diverse voices. 🏳️🌈🫱🏻🫲🏾
We know that in times like these, it’s easy to feel helpless—but together, we can create change.
The Social Squad Society: A National Community for Connection
Beyond local networking, I also co-founded The Social Squad Society with Shannon McKinstrie. This membership has become a powerhouse for business owners looking for community, connections, and clients—alongside expert social media and marketing support. Whether you're looking for networking that fits your lifestyle or guidance to grow your business, we’ve got you covered.
